We are able to offer child seat installs while you wait with no booking required. Simply visit Altapac between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm to have your child seat fitted professionally, securely and conveniently.

FITTING A CHILD SEAT


Here are the answers to some of the more commonly asked questions regarding our child seat fitment service and the rules & regulations around child restraint fitment

Between 15-25 minutes depending on the vehicle and the child seat. If it is in a larger wagon, SUV or hatch then it is an easy and quick install. If it is a dual cab ute, sedan or small car then it can take a little longer.

We’ve tried to keep our fees the best in Newcastle for child restraint fitting.

  • First seat= $45 excluding parts
  • Every additional seat= $25 excluding parts.
  • Booster seats= $35 excluding parts.
  • Every additional booster seat= $15 excluding parts.

Of course. Because we’re an authorise and registered child restraint fitment centre we give all customers who have their child restraints fitted by us a certificate from NSW Roads and Maritime Services.

Nope. Feel to pop on in any weekday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm and we will install your child restraint while you wait. If you want the job done on a Saturday, it’s always a good idea to book ahead to avoid a lengthy delay.

It depends on the age of the child and the type of seat we’re fitting. If we’re installing a rearward-facing seat then it’s a good idea to bring in 3 bath towels. We may use these to balance out the seat to make sure bub is lying flat.
For two-piece rearward facing capsules it’s important to bring both the base and the capsule to make sure the base is ftted at the right angle so that bub is sitting flat.

Yes, please make sure the child seat straps are at the right height for the occupant before the installation. Some older seat will likely have to be removed before the straps can be adjusted.

NATIONAL CHILD RESTRAINT REGULATIONS


  • Children up to the age of six months must be secured in an approved rearward facing restraint.
  • Children aged from six months old but under four years old must be secured in either a rear or forward facing approved child restraint with an inbuilt harness.
  • Children under four years old cannot travel in the front seat of a vehicle with two or more rows.
  • Children aged from four years old but under seven years old must be secured in a forward facing approved child restraint with an inbuilt harness or an approved booster seat.
  • Children aged from four years old but under seven years old cannot travel in the front seat of a vehicle with two or more rows, unless all other back seats are occupied by children younger than seven years in an approved child restraint or booster seat.
  • Children aged from seven years old but under 16 years old who are too small to be restrained by a seatbelt properly adjusted and fastened are strongly recommended to use an approved booster seat.
  • Children in booster seats must be restrained by a suitable lap and sash type approved seatbelt that is properly adjusted and fastened, or by a suitable approved child safety harness that is properly adjusted and fastened.
  • If your child is too small for the child restraint specified for their age, they should be kept in their current child restraint until it is safe for them to move to the next level.
  • If your child is too large for the child restraint specified for their age, they may move to the next level of child restraint.

ANCHOR POINT INSTALL


Altapac supply and install a wide range of anchor points for a multitude of vehicles. If you need to fit a child seat to a vehicle that doesn’t have factory anchor points or to add additional anchor point, Altapac can help.

One of our most common requests is to fit rear child seat anchor points to Dual Cab Utes like the Nissan Navara D22 and Landcruiser 79 Series Dual Cab.

DUAL CAB DEVICE (DCD)


A DCD install involves mounting an anchor point to the floor of the vehicle behind the rear seat and attaching a “D” ring to the back wall of the cab.

When fitting a child seat, a strap is attached to the floor, through the “D” ring.

DUAL CAB ANCHOR (DCA)


A DCA is fitted to the rear window of the vehicle’s cab. It was originally developed for the Holden Rodeo but has been adapted to suit other vehicles like the Navara and Triton.

  • Fewer holes drilled in vehicle’s body at the cost of visibility.

CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHOR BAR (CRAB BAR)


A CRAB is commonly install in vehicles that do not have a rear parcel shelf. This usually means vans, 4×4 wagons etc.

The Device consists of a sleeved tube that is bolted to the vehicle’s body and spans the width of the cabin.

  • One Device can be fitted with up to three anchor points
  • Can allow for a third row of seats in some vehicles
